Michael T. Houghton has a proven track record of successfully managing complex and varied projects for the telecommunications industry in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific Rim.

Houghton started Communicreate, an international consulting firm that specializes in telecommunications public relations and marketing communication in January 1996. Prior to starting Communicreate, Houghton was assistant vice president for news media relations of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA). In this position, Houghton served as the primary spokesperson for the leading international organization of the wireless communications industry.

Houghton joined CTIA in January 1993 as director of public affairs and communication and was promoted to assistant vice president in August 1995. In addition to his news media relations’ duties, Houghton was the founding executive editor of CTIA ‘s quarterly journal, Wireless Communications Forum, and the Wireless SourceBook publications. He also chaired the Association’s Wireless Public Relations Roundtable.

Before joining CTIA, Houghton worked for five years at Bell Atlantic Corporation, a Fortune 25 company, where he served as director of international corporate relations and advertising. Prior to joining Bell Atlantic, Houghton managed C&P Telephone’s media relations and external affairs program in Washington, D.C. From 1973 to 1988, he served in a variety of editorial, speechwriting, film & video, news media relations, external affairs, public talks, special events and Hispanic information positions. Previously, Houghton worked for the National Recreation & Parks Association, the Boston Sunday Advertiser, and as a journalist in the U.S. Navy.

A winner of local, regional, national and international communications awards, Houghton was voted Communicator of the Year in 1976 by the Washington chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

A contributing author of the textbook, Understanding and Using Video, published by IABC in 1985, Houghton has been a guest lecturer at local Washington, D.C. area colleges, and a seminar/presentation leader for local, national and international groups. Houghton earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was the recipient of the Martin J. Flaherty Award for Excellence in Journalism.
